Horus was the falcon-headed god whose left eye, "The Eye of
Horus", was the moon and whose right eye, "The Eye of Ra", was the
sun. There were many different Horus gods though in the main, there were two
types: solar and those of Osirian parentage. |
Haroeris Horus the Elder - the falcon god combined with
the deity Wer, God of Light whose eyes wer the sun and the
moon.
Harakhte Horus of the Horizon - possessing the
characteristics of the god of light and identified with Ra as he travelled
through the daytime sky from east to west.
|
 |
Harmakhis Horus in the Horizon - the rising sun
associated with Khepri as a symbol of ressurection and eternal
life.
Horsiesis Horus the son of the goddess Isis. |

|
The Eye of Horus was used as a protective device and worn as
amulets and jewellery or placed, in the form of a plaque, over the embalming
incision on mummies.
Sometimes the Eye of Horus was painted on the bows
of boats so that it could see ahead and protect the vessel.
One myth
tells of the Eye of Horus and how it was damaged and then healed thus
representing the waning and the waxing of the moon. |
